Doctors

Dr. Jon Dallimore MSc, MRCGP, DCH, DRCOG.
Jon is medical consultant to Tangent Expeditions. He is a qualified doctor and Programme Director of Wilderness Medical Training*. He works in accident and emergency and general practice and has a special interest in expedition medicine. Jon has been doctor or leader on 19 overseas expeditions which vary from the deserts of Namibia and the jungles of Sulawesi, Thailand and Ecuador, to Arctic Greenland and high altitude climbs and treks to Nepal, Kenya and the High Atlas Mountains, Morocco. Jon's research interests include acute mountain sickness and the incidence of illness and injuries on expeditions. Jon completed a Master's degree in travel medicine in 1998. He has been a volunteer with the Flying Doctors' Service of East Africa.

Jon has trained several of our leaders in advanced medicine and runs advanced medical courses each year (Advanced Medicine for Remote Foreign Travel*) including private courses for Tangent leaders and clients. Jon has climbed several peaks in Greenland whilst acting as expedition doctor for our 1999 Watkins Expedition, including several first ascents and an ascent of Gunnbjorns Fjeld.

Over the years Tangent has also worked with a variety of other doctors, nurses and medics on our expeditions, who provide invaluable medical knowledge and expertise. We always welcome enquiries from expedition members with such suitable medical experience.

Special financial terms are offered in the form of substantial discounts off the advertised tour prices.

Medical Provision

All Tangent led expeditions carry a full and comprehensive expedition medical kit including, when practical, IV fluids and injectable drugs, designed for prolonged expeditions in remote areas where immediate medical help is not available. They also include anti-biotics and a full range of standard first aid provisions. All expedition leaders hold qualifications in First Aid At Work and Mountain First Aid, with many holding more advanced qualifications such as Advanced Medicine For Remote Foreign Travel* and Advanced Life Support. Many of our expeditions also include a qualified doctor, paramedic or nurse.

Tangent Expeditions procures the services and experience of Wilderness Medical Training as medical advisers and consultants who provide on-going training, advice and courses for Tangent leaders and clients.
